Critical thinking is a deep thought ability necessarily applied to the nursing process to achieve solutions to a recognized problem. It can also be defined as the ability of a nurse to draw a purposeful decision in resolving a defined problem using gathered information. As a tool for dispensing assignment, critical thinking is utilized to modify our priority. The position of a scholar was that no universal definition of critical thinking exists in nursing (Green, 2022). This said skill is achieved over time when experiencing the same problem. Sometimes the new nurses on the floor marvels at the demonstration of critical thinking by the older nurses for experience thought them so.

While evidence-based practice is a term that came into being in the 1990s and was defined as an act of incorporating best available information with clinical expertise (Stannard, 2020). It also means implementing a new valid and effective way of delivering patients care to achieve patient’s outcome. Through evidence-based practice, skills have been known to improve and be simplified, priorities of patients’ care are set straight using critical thinking alongside, and individual patient’s need has been proven to be met.

The role played by evidence-based practice and critical thinking in moving the health system forward cannot be overemphasized. Both are essential requirements in nursing towards improving patient’s outcome and improve their values. Putting evidence-based practice and critical thinking together becomes a formidable push in advancing patient’s health and achieving a memorable satisfaction.
